I grew up in the Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton area (ABE, for all you local folks… Lehigh Valley for all you Philadelphia peeps), and my family still lives up there. There are so many things to do with kids in the Lehigh Valley – this list is just the tip of the iceberg!
Now that I have my own kids, when we go up to visit my family, we sometimes like to venture out and check out some of the area’s attractions I grew up loving myself.
I get asked a lot of questions about things to do in Allentown PA with kids – since I am from there. Mostly, people want to know about the Crayola Factory. Plan a weekend with the kids (The Hotel Bethlehem is lovely, and historic!) and do a few activities!
The Crayola Factory, Easton, PA
I have a soft spot in my heart for the Crayola Factory in Easton, PA. My dad worked for Binney and Smith until he retired, and I worked at the Crayola Factory as an activity assistant while I was in college.
The Crayola Factory is an interactive, hands-on center for kids and families. Perfect for young kids (though everyone enjoys crayons, right?) the center features a crayon and marker making demonstration followed by numerous activities for kids. My favorite activity is the model magic.

The Lehigh Valley Zoo, Schnecksville, PA
We love zoos, and this small zoo is big on character. The penguin exhibit is incredible and if you get a chance, you can watch them feed – when they call them all by name.
My favorite exhibit is the kangaroo exhibit where you can actually walk through the exhibit. It’s a small zoo, but it’s so unique. Plus the drive there is beautiful and the views you get as you climb up to the zoo are fantastic. Be sure to take your time on the way out – through the “preserve” and check out the big animals!

Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, Allentown, PA
There is so much to do at Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown, PA. Between the skyscraper-like roller coasters for thrill-seekers, the Peanuts-themed section for little ones, and all the waterpark fun for hot days, you could spend two days at Dorney! Personally, I have a lot of fond memories of Dorney Park – and I love hearing my mom’s own memories, too, from when she would visit Dorney Park as a teenager.

Mack Truck Museum, Allentown, PA
Do you like trucks? Do you have husbands/sons/daughters that love TRUCKS? Then you have to see the king of trucks’ museum – Mack Truck Museum in Allentown, PA.
For many visitors, the museum’s real treasures aren’t made of steel at all, but of paper and celluloid. There are more than 80,000 photos in the collection, many dating back to 1905. And there are records — documentation of virtually all the trucks made by Mack since its early days.
